What India Giving Day (IGD) Offers
India Giving Day (IGD) gives your organization a highly visible platform to run a fundraising campaign, backed by:
- High visibility through P.R. efforts, marketing through digital and other channels
- Campaign toolkits, training, support and other resources
- Sponsored matching gifts, prizes, and event grants
- Accomplished leadership that includes campaign co-chairs, ambassadors and nonprofit leaders
What IGD Success Requires from You
IGD provides the platform - but the campaigns that succeed are the ones where an organization actively mobilizes its own network to take advantage of what we offer. That means:
- An engaged base of U.S. donors
- A dedicated Board of Directors and/or active volunteers
- A track record of fundraising in the U.S.
- A U.S.-based team or volunteer base
A landing page on the IGD website alone will not generate donations. The organizations that succeed treat IGD as a tool to build their fundraising and donor outreach efforts.

India Giving Day Registration Requirements and What Strengthens your Application
Requirements:
To be listed on the India Giving Day website, your organization must meet both of the following requirements:
- 501(c)(3) status in the United States. *
- Commit 100% of funds raised through IGD to organizations in India authorized to accept foreign donations while allowing reasonable expenditures for your own fundraising, administrative, and constituency-building work in the U.S. and India.
*A limited number of spots are available for fiscally sponsored organizations as part of our second year expanded pilot. Contact meenakshi@indiaphilanthropyalliance.org for details.
Legal Disclosures:
Your application will ask about any resolved or pending legal actions in India or the U.S., and the steps your organization has taken to address them. This answer must be complete and truthful, it will directly factor into our acceptance decision.
What Strengthens Your Application (Indicators of Success):
Meeting the two requirements above makes you eligible. Meeting most of the following puts you in a stronger position for priority acceptance, since they indicate your organization has the readiness i.e. staff, volunteers, reach, to make the most of IGD:
- Revenue: More than $250,000 in U.S. revenue in at least one of the last three years.
- People power: At least one full-time U.S. staff member (paid or unpaid), and/or at least six engaged board members willing to reach out to their networks.
- Reach: A U.S. mailing list of 500+ people, an active social media presence, and/or a committed volunteer base.
- Focus: At least 50% of your total program expenses support work in India.
Our recommendation: Apply if you meet both eligibility requirements and most of the four indicators above.
